We know that when the mind feels uneasy, the body uses its own language to convey symptoms of stress that disclose our hidden feelings. Over time, our persistent mental attitudes become fixed in our muscles ( a habit of thought becomes a habit of posture), the tension building up in our limbs causing stiffness and discomfort.
Exercise can be an effective release for the stiffness caused by falling asleep in an awkward posture, but is useless resolving habits of stiffness accumulated through our mental and emotional responses.
The fact is that mind over body created this tension, so mind over body must abolish it.
Think about the flexibility that a baby or toddler enjoys. There are very few adults who can still put their toes in their mouth, or who find it easy to curve their back in such a way as to form a "bridge".
As we grow, we pick up and collect moments of Tension- parental rows, difficulties at school, adolescent pangs, leaving home for the first time, the first job,the first relationship, and so on. Although many of these episodes may seem to have been forgotten, the physical and mental tension that created at the time of their occurence is stored up in our muscles, causing us to stiffen. To release such stiffening we need to take purposeful remedial action.
Often,we are so used to feeling tense that we are not alerted by the messages that our body sends us.
But
we can re-alert our minds and set free the tension in our muscle by following the exercise opposite. As each muscle is released from tension, the mind's burden lightens.
Over the year our attitudes can become like rock, hardening themselves against a genuine response to life's changes. Sometimes we need to give ourselves time to becomes loose again not to feel life's pressures more acutely, but to deal with them more effectively.
Our world is build upon relationship and communication. May this understanding bring you good health and happiness.
Much love & peace
